Music BEM celebration card

A local town personality has been granted a well deserved BEM in the New Years Honours list.

I have been asked to make a card to celebrate this very special occasion.

As the British Empire Medal has been awarded for services to music ... It was an obvious choice to go for a musical inspired theme.

I used a music sheet printed tissue for the background and hand cut the basic piano shape.
I hand, add the musical note using grunge board which was then embossed in black to give some dimension.

A black and white simple style was used to co-ordinate the sentiments.

The inside also has a musical inspired insert.

I also made co-ordinating boxes as the cards were quite high and deep and would have been damaged if posted.

The whole card was kept quite plain and the card was for a gentleman musical conductor.

Copy a hat ?

I bought this grey wool hat a local craft show and loads of friends have asked did I make it and could I make them one too.

Now if ever there was a challenge ... This was it!

1. I don't have a pattern
2. I can't do cable
3. I didn't know where to start

Sooo . If you don't know .. Ask someone who does!

Thankful I could call on my Mum and my crochet teacher for assistance.

After much counting and writing and re- writing and knitting and ripping and knitting and ripping ...

And several hours later i finally got the hang of cable stitches and worked out what was happening pattern wise on the original hat.

Voila .... The finished project and an improved version on the original which had button holes that gapped when you wore the hat.

BEM card

I have been asked to make a card to celebrate a local resident being honoured with a BEM in this years New Years Honours list.

A local girls brigade officer has received the BEM for all her many years of service to this organisation.

This card has been made with a subtle floral theme. I have embossed the background for added texture.

As the card is quite high with all the embellishments I have made a matching pizza style box to protect the card if posted to the recipient.

I have also added a beautiful metal embellishment and made it into a cameo style with the BEM initials. I have attached cameo so it can be easily removed after the card has been discarded.

Baby blanket heading to New Zealand

Finished my latest crochet project just in time to send to New Zealand for my cousin who is expecting their new baby any day soon.

I used a lovely cotton style yarn which was a pleasure to crochet with.

The yarn comes self patterned in beautiful shades.
I made some simple granny squares and then joined them together and added a thick border with lots of spacing to co-ordinate the look.

Craft shopping

What a lovely day out with the girls from craft class.

What could be better than a trip to the huge craft shop at Hillmount Garden Centre.

Much deliberation and decisions ... Ooh what to buy

Thanks to Anna and Pauline who did the driving as poor Thelma still has a dislocated shoulder.
